Two Seouls πŸ™

 Two Seouls (2020)

β€œEach diptych has two images taken from opposite angles at the same spot. Each image will contain a lyrical, if myopic, view of Seoul, in direct contrast with the one next to it.”

For most of 2020, I lived in Yongsan, an area of Seoul known for its close juxtaposition of low and high income neighborhoods. Being such a dense place, Yongsanβ€”and Seoulβ€”is full of other juxtapositions as well.

With β€œTwo Seouls,” I hope to capture the jarring contradictions and antonymic harmonies of Seoul, whether they be of high and low income, traditional and modern, loud and quiet, artificial and natural, crowded and deserted, or fast and slow.

This will be done through a series of diptychs, each with two images taken from opposite angles at the same spot. Each image will contain a lyrical, if myopic, view of Seoul, in direct contrast with the one next to it.

This project presents a different view of Seoul than the glitzy, metropolitan images often shown in international media. It aims to create a more complex space in between the two images in each diptych.
