The Ask: Create an image to mourn and remember the Sewol ferry disaster.

context

When a ferry called “Sewol” sank into the cold waters off the South Korean coast on April 16, 2014, it took more than 300 lives. Most of them were still only teenagers who were on a school trip. This tragic event is remembered as one of the most traumatic events in recent South Korean history.

Idea

I placed a paper boat on a billowing piece of hanbok—Korean traditional clothing—in the color of the murky sea.
